"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."- Albert Einstein

Our eco-friendly site is located in the heart of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque is situated at the north end of the Chihuahuan Desert, near the edge of the Colorado Plateau.

We have a semi-arid climate with evapotranspiration rates nearly in line with precipitation rates and receive ~ 8-9 inches of precipitation per year.

The effects of climate change have been rather pronounced, as the city has had higher than normal temperatures over the past decade, with our precipitation dropping to 4.72 during 2011, and 5.46 during 2012.

Our site is situated on acre, with two modest homes on the property. We began our sustainability initiatives in the summer of 2008, when our site consisted of one property. In the summer of 2009, we purchased the home to the west, thus our young site is a work in progress.

We both hold full time jobs, and our eco-site has become our hobby, a place to meditate and relax after the long, stress-prone days. While there is continually room for improvement, some of the elements that we currently have in place are hyperlinked in the menu above.
